The first prologue for the writing contest/gamething that I'm co-hosting, Eternity: Ascension, recently went up here; I'm pretty proud of it. We plan to do one a week from here on out; whether we stick to this or not, who knows, but that's what we're going to shoot for.

Alternate listening for this (and the track I always hear for it in my mind, particularly the "walking in the desert" segment): Rachmaninov's Prelude Opus 32 No. 10. Both of my pre-readers liked the Mitsuda piece better, though (and I can't deny that it works pretty well, too), so I used it.

Currently predicting the system beta test to take place in...some time Septemberish, exact date unknown, at the Random Insanity forums; I'll probably post more about that as it gets closer.

I, too, will join the bandwagon on this meme (as I actually LIKE TVTropes).

    the meme

I'll finish other meme soon (possibly on the weekend), when my brain isn't feeling like mush.

A meme, because I am bored.

Your result for The Golden Compass Daemon Test...

    Calm Thoughtful Soul

You are a calm and restrained person, and you don't usually let your emotions get the better of you. Your friends and family are very important to you, and you enjoy spending time with them. However, you need to get away from them occasionally, because you need regular time to yourself to unwind a bit.

You are thoughtful and sensitive to the needs of others, especially your loved ones. You make an excellent listener, and your friends rely on you to be their rock in times of trouble. It is rare that you ask them to return the favor, however: you are a private person, and you rarely talk about your feelings. You don't like confrontation, and you don't usually react when someone hurts your feelings. You try to give people the benefit of the doubt, and you don't want to cause a fuss. You pick your battles, and when someone steps over the line, you surprise them with the vehemence of your emotions.

Your daemon's form would represent your poised, confident nature and your calm self restraint. He or she would probably rarely speak in public, but when alone, you and he/she could review the day, and he or she could provide the reassurance and comfort that you deny yourself by keeping your emotions bottled up.

    Suggested forms:
    Cheetah, Crane, Wolf, Raven.

In which I write by candlelight
    This last week has sucked.

    From the top:

Scheduled two weeks of partial vacation in an effort to focus on the winter tourney, "Written in the Stars"; I had very high hopes. Week one worked out great--I feel I really got off to a good start with the writing. Then came the second week.

The writing didn't go so well in week two. Actually, nothing went so well in week two, due to a huge ice storm tearing a path of destruction across pretty much the entire state (and a few other states for good measure!) Power died (and took running water with it), landlines were scrambled, and even the cellular grid got scrambled for awhile.

Fast forward... eight days? Nine days, now? Something like that. Still no power, still no running water, though by now the ice has melted and the phone system seems to be working again. I am, for the time being, able to connect to the internet via laptop and a modem connected to a power brick (surge protector with battery backup)--at least enough to check e-mail/chat on IRC/whine in LJ posts, heh--but I would cheerfully kill someone to get electricity back on here (I want a BATH T_T).

Anyway, enough whining--at least I still have a roof over my head. Mostly I'm just writing this post to let everyone know I'm still alive; when they get the power back on, I'll be back for real. Hopefully they'll have power back on within a couple of days, but more realistic estimates give it at least three to four days, and worst case scenarios have it as taking a MONTH or more (oh dear god no). It can't come soon enough for me, but there's no hurrying utility workers, it seems.

    Happy meme, Day...something
Today hasn't been a happy day. I kept hearing...things...skittering around in the walls as I was trying to sleep; tiny little feet scrabbling, strange clicking noises coming through the walls--click, click click click, clickclick...click. I drifted in and out of sleep, fragmented and disconcerting dreams interspersed with half-awake glimpses of reality. (It STILL wasn't as bad as sleeping with Pink Floyd in the background, though!)

And now it's time for me to go to work.

There was some happiness to be found today, though.

1.) Not sure if I mentioned it earlier or not, but Rosenkreuz Stilette: Freudenstachel finally seems to have a release date. I greatly enjoyed what of the first RKS I played, and anticipate nothing but good from the second. On a similar good note, Edelweiss (manufacturer of Ether Vapor) has their site back up; it seem they're also planning to release something soon, though I haven't checked into the details.

...and that's about it, really. Hopefully tomorrow is a bit more positive.

    Happy meme, Day 4
1.) This morning at work: free chili dinner with cheesecake dessert.
2.) Got off work 30 minutes early.

All in all, last night went about as well as a night at work CAN go.

Day 3: How I failed at happiness
Got home, slept through most of today, woke up an hour before time to go to work. My job makes me feel like a trapped rat running frantically in a wheel that is endlessly going nowhere, because no matter what I do there I am accomplishing NOTHING, but I can't quit because there is nowhere else to go around here.

    I'm so tired.

Because I guess I have to post something that made me happy today:

1.) Got off work 15 minutes early.
2.) Possible new campaign on the horizon.
    3.) Leftover pizza. Mm.

    What made me happy today:

    1. Post about something that made you happy today, even if it’s just a small thing.
    2. Do this every day for a week without fail.
    3. Tag 8 of your friends to do the same.

Most everyone I would tag has already done this, so I'll skip that last step.

Things that make me happy for today:

    1.) Not being at Wal-Mart
2.) Rounded up the last of the mp3s on the Epic soundtrack~

    Meme swiped from [info]mithrigil.

What do you think are the quote-unquote "trademarks" of the fiction that I write? What type of themes or characterization notes or quirks keep on manifesting in my writing? Essentially, what do you think is a stereotypically "Dry" way of writing fic?

I spent this morning playing Garou against a guy using the nick 'Instinct'.

That guy was awesome and I have been schooled; I now understand why Kevin is considered god-tier.

Still, I won enough that it wasn't QUITE a skunk, I picked up some Kevin and Butt tactics (even if I have doubts as to my ability to ever USE them, given how horrid I am at combo inputs through netplay), and I learned a few things.

Otakon was great. Got an awesome coat, got to watch Cromartie High (wtf XD) and the Clerks animated series, got to hang with Lucent, NS, Sanna (who was astoundingly good at Garou), Tara, Slip, Mith and Kell (who were only there for the last night, alas), and Lucent's two friends.

I also got some nice stuff, including a long dark coat, a nice leather hat, a bokken (the three of these taken together make me look like some kind of anime priest), a kung fu top, a slidecard and swapdisk for my PS2, and a nice T-shirt.

I will definitely be going to Otakon next year. :D

It'S been awhile since I updated, I know, so I figured now would be a good time.

First off: I'm now a yellow belt in American Freestyle Kenpo, and I'm taking private lessons with the grandmaster. Fun stuff.

On the work front, the other overnight Electronics associate retired; last week I worked Electronics on all five days. I don't know if this is a permanent thing or not, but Electronics beats most other sections of the store, hands down.

Lastly, a bit of Otakon news. I had intended to get the money order and pay Lucent for the hotel room over the weekend, the parents descnded upon me with the ferocity of oversized raptors and demanded I pay them immediately. Ugh. Fortunately, I have backup money (though I won't be able to get to it until Monday.) Sorry, Lucent.

    Dear Santa...

    Dear Santa,

    This year I've been busy!

Last month I gave [info]sirwayne a kidney (1000 points). In January on a flight to Vancouver, I stole the emergency flight information card (-40 points). Last Thursday I bought porn for [info]lucent_world (10 points). In September I had a shoot-out with rival gang lords on the 5 near LA (-76 points). In July I set [info]rijsg's puppy on fire (-66 points).

Overall, I've been nice (828 points). For Christmas I deserve a red Radio-Flyer wagon!

    Sincerely,
    dry31

A meme? :O (stolen from JSG, who stole it from Mith)
I don't usually do memes, but I saw this one on JSG's journal and thought it looked interesting, so I stole it. Answer if you feel like it, don't if you don't.

    1) Do I have a distinct style of writing?
    2) If so, what exactly is it that defines my "style"?
    3) Would you say my stories usually follow a 'theme'?
    4) Is there anything I really need to improve or change?
    5) Does my style (if I have one) remind you of anyone else?
    6) Judging from whatever writing of mine that you've seen, what do you think is/are my strength(s)?
    7) What do you think is/are my weakness(es)?
    8) What would you rate my writing overall on a scale of 1-10?
